I’d be more than happy to help, I have some PHP skills and a fair amount of free time. Heavy gentoo user, but not a developer. Yank my email out of the comment if you’re interested!

And I’d suggest looking through the feeds in Universe and Planet, respectively, and seeing roughly how much you’d gain dropping Planet for Universe – the Gentoo-only Planet feed can see a lot of posts as it is, some days.

I read planet gentoo for gentoo stuff, if I had to read crap about “foo’s” gf breaking up because his penis is too small I’d not read it at all. I’m only interested in the gentoo stuff, I have other planets/feeds for other topics.

Keep them separate. There is no reason to combine them. I really don’t care to read about everyone’s day when all I care is about what someone is doing with regards to Gentoo. I don’t care if the Universe is the “default”, but don’t get rid of the no-nonsense Planet please.

I agree with Zaheer Gentoo Universe is much better then Planet. Gentoo Universe is like the other planet’s there’s no reason to keep this planet because we don’t have absolutly blog something about Gentoo when we have to talk about it.

Hi Daniel,

I’d prefer to keep them as separate feeds. There’s no excuse these days for anyone using blogging software that can’t publish separate feeds for both Planet and Universe.

I beg to disagree with the other comments, I prefer Gentoo Universe over Planet. Planet is not a replacement for gentoo-dev mailing list.

Yeah, no offence to the developers, but I’m completely uninterested in what they have to say outside of Gentoo-related stuff. If someone sounds like they’re interesting, I can always check out their individual blog separately.

Are there any stats on how popular the Planet RSS URL is compared to the Universe RSS URL?

I like the planet as-is. I don’t feel I’m missing anything by not getting FOSS or technology commentary; I can get that anywhere. :-) I like getting Gentoo development info from the Planet (so I don’t have to read gentoo-dev) and very much enjoy getting it plain rather than wading through the crap like on planet.freedesktop or planet.gnome.
