IMHO the biggest difference between touch and swipe sensors is the size, which 
means swipe sensors with superior image quality (read higher DPI) cost 
significantly less than touch sensors, and also can be easily fitted onto 
laptops and other devices

as far as external sensors go, don't even consider Authentec, their newer 
sensors (AES2810 and AES2550) are not supported
